Dr. Douglas Miller trained and qualified at Guy’s Dental Hospital London in 1983 and has served on the dental staff there both in Prosthodontics and the Sedation and Special Care unit where he treated dentally phobic patients.Douglas continues to teach techniques for the treatment of nervous patients to both Dentists and Dental Nurses. He is actively involved in the latest dental techniques and procedures both in the United Kingdom and the U.S.A., where he has studied at the acclaimed Pankey Institute. Dr Miller is renowned for the treatment of anxious patients and holds a Post-Graduate qualification from London University in Dental Sedation & Dental Phobia Therapy. He offers a variety of sedative techniques to help patients overcome their fears. His practice is highly regarded and is also known as a referral practice: many Dentists refer him Dental patients who are too anxious to be treated elsewhere. Treatments involving sedation or acupuncture are also offered for patients who “gag” when having dental procedures. Douglas has been a consultant to Glaxo SmithKline Oral Healthcare Division and is an active member of the British Dental Association, the Dental Sedation Teachers Group, the British Society of Periodontology, the Association of Dental Implantology, and the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry. He regularly acts as a professional consultant and spokesperson for the British Dental Association. Dr. Miller regularly lectures to Dentists and Dental Nurses on the treatment of nervous dental patients and sedation techniques. Douglas is also an Expert Witness and this work involves him in advising in Medico-Legal matters and reporting on dental negligence cases. |
Sharon Floyd Adv. Dip CPC, Dip. CBT, Dip. NLP, is a qualified therapist specialising in Dental Phobia with many years experience in the field of dentistry. She is also a dental nurse and Practice Manager and has been working alongside Dr Miller since 1990.

In 1998 Sharon completed an Advanced Diploma in Counselling with the aim of using her experience in dentistry combined with her therapy skills to help those with dental phobia. Sharon has since gone on to complete Diploma’s in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. As well as her work at Dr Miller’s practice, Sharon acts as a volunteer therapist with the National Phobic Society to help those with a wide range of anxiety and phobia related problems. Amanda Bhatia EDH (Hygienist)Amanda qualified at Bristol Dental School, and has worked as a Hygienist for over 20 years mainly in private practice in North and Central London. She approaches her work with a friendly and easy professionalism that ensures a relaxed atmosphere for her patients. Amanda believes that good communication between patient and clinician is the key to successful treatment. She aims to ensure that her patients feel secure and confident whilst in her care. Each visit is individually tailored to the needs and clinical requirements of every patient. Amanda feels it is vital to keep pace with the fast moving developments in the field of preventive dentistry and therefore ensures that her skills are constantly updated. She joined Douglas Miller’s dental practice in 2002. |
Dawn Freeman (Hygienist)Dawn qualified at Glasgow School of Dental Hygiene. Dawn has wide and varied experience as a Hygienist having worked at the Yorkhill Hospital for Sick Children, and the Queen Mother’s Maternity Hospital, both in Glasgow, Charing Cross Hospital, London, and in Private Practice in North and Central London. She has been actively involved in projects for Oral health promotion, and tooth decay prevention and has also found time to work on a dentally-themed book for children. Dawn joined Douglas’s practice initially in 1992, staying for 5 years. She re-joined again in 2000. |
Lila Divani (Dental Nurse)Lila has been a dedicated member of our dental team for the past five years. She is a kind and caring nurse with a gentle nature that makes all our patients feel at ease. Lila gained the National Certificate for Dental Nursing in 2003 while continuing to work at our practice. She is married with three children. |
Jackie Miller (Dental Nurse)Jackie is highly experienced as both a Dental Nurse and a Practice Receptionist. She trained as a Dental Nurse at Guy’s Hospital Dental School. She holds both the National Certificate in Dental Nursing and The Guy’s Hospital Certificate for Dental Nurses. Jackie has also qualified as a kindergarten and learning support teacher, so she is very good with children. Jackie is very good at putting patients at their ease with a cup of coffee and a smile, and is usually in attendance on a Saturday. |
